Professional Photography course at city of Bristol College.

I am halfway through the second year of a three year part-time course. For those who may be interested I am doing the course to improve my skills and my confidence in my chosen subject. I have been doing photography work for 10 years and more now but have missed some vital parts along the way. the joys of working for oneself in the lonely world of photography freelance operators!

Over the last few weeks I have been concentrating on the two subject headings for the assignments;

1-Location Photography. I need to produce six high quality images for the end of this assignment, and the subject I have chosen is to take pictures of a car for a sales brochure or website. However as a practice run and a precursor I have been working with Fox cycling at Kestrel court hearing Portishead.Steve Fox runs some very interesting and dynamic courses with lots of colour and interest and motion. I have done two sessions with him to practice some of the lighting issues that the location assignment requires.it is most difficult environment with big mirrors and fast moving people. one of the main problems is people near to the flash wearing white clothing causing both a distraction and the flash to shut down.

I have completed a full location assignment practice run with a gliding club that a friend of mine Neil is a part of. I have completed that along the assignment route and recorded the details.

2-Specialist Practice. This is the one where I have been doing a lot of work though it is difficult to evidence. I have made the decision to pursue the travel photographer genre and get as much information as possible from the people within the industry so that I can get a real insight. My research started off by sending out emails to several known photographers identified through books and through searches on the Internet. I have had a surprising set of results and responses which I will evidence, that certainly will shortcut some of the routes I would naturally have taken. It will be something that in the future would be ideal so that I can travel with Michelle and get paid and of course enjoy the photography work.
